The CLA Licence

Anniesland College currently subscribes to the CLA Licence.

Staff are advised to familiarise themselves with this licence agreement and in particular the ‘excluded lists’ i.e. publications where the CLA licence does not apply.

Features and Benefits

"Our  [CLA] Further Education Licence enables institutions to make the best use of their resources while providing protection against copyright infringement Although currently a trial scheme, a new permanent licence with enhanced rights is planned for August 2011. Consultation is on going within the sector to ensure that our offering remains relevant within the modern teaching and learning environment.

The current licence includes the following features and benefits.

Photocopying rights - providing the freedom to make copies from most books, journals and magazines published in the UK and in many other countries

Scanning and re-typing rights - providing the freedom to copy from most books, journals, and magazines published in the UK.

Right to receive and use scanned copies - providing the freedom to reuse scanned material.

Distribution of paper copies - enabling you to widely share information with students and staff of your institution whenever you want to.

Distribution of scanned and re-typed copies - offering greater flexibility to students and staff that have access to the institution’s secure network

Remote access rights - the licence provides flexibility and convenience by enabling students or lecturers working remotely to access copies stored on your institution's secure VLE. Lecturers can also email copies to students, including distance learners and lecturers working remotely are able to prepare paper copies for lessons.

Interactive usage - the licence enables copied material to be incorporated into lessons through the use of Digital Whiteboards and other interactive technology, including presentation software such as PowerPoint ^TM.

Storage rights - included in the licence is permission to store copies on your institutions VLE for the full licence year.

Indemnity cover - compliance with the licence ensures peace of mind in the event of any infringement claim.

Annual fee – permits multiple use with the convenience of one single licence in one easy transaction."
